Pre-Sales FAQ

We are currently compiling some commonly asked questions for this section. However, this may be of some help for the current time...

POP3 mailboxes - Individual Email accounts that you can use to send and receive email, quite often a single "catch-all" email per domain name is adequate as this will collect all email aimed at the domain.

Unlimited e-mail forwarding - Email forwarding to other email accounts (eg. another@hotmail.com) Unlimited aliases - As many names@domain.com as you can imagine - you can share POP email accounts so that support@domain.com and help@domain.com arrive in the same POP or forwarding account

Unlimited auto-responders - Extremely useful when you are busy - these send an automatic response to anyone who emails this account. A copy of the original message is sent to you normally and you'll be able to reply when you have the time without worrying about acknowledging receipt

SMTP Access - Allows you to send email from your domain regardless of other email accounts setup. Normally the username and password are the same as your main "catch-all" email account

CGI, SSL, SSI - CGI-scripts are widely used to execute commands such as sending email or processing information online. SSL (secure socket layering) is an impenetrable method of encryption suitable for protecting all data within your site. SSI (Server Side Includes) allows you to request information from the server such as date, time, page modified dates, file inserts, download information etc.

Free sub-domains - Generally Rarely provided with value hosting services elsewhere, you can setup a number of subdomains without charge before your main domain name. These can be setup as: shop.domain.com and links.domain.com or even mary.domain.com adding new gateways to your site, in addition to the normal www.domain.com.

Internet bandwidth - At 120Mbps speed you could technically download files from your site at 14MB a second, with 255Mbps, this goes up to around 30MB per second!

Unlimited internet bandwidth - No matter how much traffic you receive, you'll not be penalised we simply judge download usage per month (data-transfer).

Data-transfer - The cumulative size of files downloaded from your site. This is usually measured in MB or GB per month.

Log files - Webalizer can be installed directly into your site, offering fast and easy access to all your stats

Telnet Shell account - Ground control of your site using Telnet commands usines a clint such as Putty.

FTP for file uploads - This is just access through FTP clients such as CuteFTP and WS_FTP with all the resume features available for use. This is pretty widely accepted as standard for all hosting accounts and if you already use an FTP client, this will be no trouble at all. Download a demo copy here.

Perl 5.8 - The latest version of Perl, giving you access to all the latest scripts for your CGI-BIN.

ASP - Only available with Windows 2000 hosting as it cannot be used on Unix systems. Allows integration of ASP databases and adds a dynamic feel to the website if ASP pages are used correctly.

PHP-5 Dynamic Scripting - PHP is becoming more widely used on the internet, an improvement to SSI; arguably with the greater flexibility of ASP scripting.

Pay per name, not extension - An example would be: you register domain.co.uk for £10 for years. The hosting is tied in with domain.com - you only pay for the site hosting once and the two domains are tied together so that they act as one.
